Monstera is a cocktail bar and bottle shop dedicated to exploring the wide world of Mexican spirits, from mezcal and tequila to other traditional agave-based drinks, alongside a curated selection of international natural wines. Our name, “Monstera,” is inspired by the concept of translingualism, where words resonate across multiple languages. Monstera deliciosa, the iconic plant native to Mexico’s tropical forests, symbolizes hidden secrets, echoing the speakeasy allure of New Society, our secret bar located in Monstera’s basement.

With the tagline "Mischief not malice," Monstera fosters an environment of playful edginess, celebrating the spirit of good trouble. Helmed by mezcal expert Michael Fricker, who also plans to open a mezcal-focused bar in Oaxaca City, Monstera’s mission is deeply rooted in Mexican culture and tradition. Our bar highlights an even stronger focus on mezcal, tequila, and other Mexican spirits, while still offering a refined selection of natural wines.

We take pride in our curated selection of traditional agave spirits, with a particular focus on small-batch, producer-driven projects. Every bottle on our shelves reflects the heritage, terroir, and dedication of its makers, ensuring a truly authentic and meaningful drinking experience.
